Colin was born super chunky but needed time to fully develop his lungs and rid himself of some fluid (in layman terms). They took him immediately to NICU and then got me settled into my recovery room. Not being with him immediately was difficult, but doesn't hold a candle to walking out of the hospital after I was discharged and he wasn't. The nurses in NICU are, literally, angels walking on earth. We were fortunate enough to know one of them...she has been one of our go-to babysitters while in nursing school. They were always there to answer any questions and always willing to make us feel comforted. We spent our days with him together and then Joe made a nightly trip to deliver milk after we had dinner with Liam. The hardest part was that Liam so desperately wanted to meet his brother and no children were allowed in NICU. When we received notification that Colin would be discharged after he was well enough to stay off the breathing and feeding tubes, he passed his "car seat challenge," gained weight consistently and ate 2ozs in 20 mins. Colin stayed with them for 11 days! We can never thank Sacred Heart NICU nurses and staff enough.
