I am learning more and more, that as a good mom, you have to choose your battles. Some "battles" are not worth trying to win in the grand scheme of life. This morning was one of them. Liam insisted on wearing his reindeer slippers to school and I tried to explain to him that he needed to wear "real shoes" to school...which resulted in this...

Oh, I also tried to explain to him that he needed to comb his hair...that didn't go over well either. Result....

We had his frog rain boots in the car and he ended up putting those on before school. Love this little, independent, persistent, guy!

Liam and I spent the night at the Harrison's on Saturday night, so Matt & Leah could have a night out on the town. We had a blast with Max!

Then, Liam made sure that Max received his hat back.

We had a great dinner together...in each other's seats.

We enjoyed our milk together.

We built things together.

A & L - Pensacola Beach 1/2 Marathon

On the morning of January 14th, it was in th 30s with the wind blowing along the beach. However, it was time to tackle my 3rd half marathon! I wasn't sure what to expect and I start every one by knowing I will give it my all. In the back of my head, my goal was to bring my time down closer to 2:20 (my first was 2:34, my second was 2:29).

Leah and I bundled up before the start.

Leah, Jennifer and I at the taking off on the 13.1! Leah and I ran a 9:35 min average for the first 8/9 miles. I had already pushed through some left knee pain and felt I need to slow it down. At that point, I already knew I was going to PR and I was proud of that.

After doing a bit of mall-walking and running through out the last 3 miles, I turned the corner to see that I was still going to make it UNDER my goal of 2:20...I was really thinking more like 2:23. I saw the clock and gave it my all...with a fist pump.

I had finished in 2:17:31! Then, I ran straight to Liam!

It was a great run and pumped me up for 1/2 marathon number 4 on March 4th in New Orleans. In the meantime, I'm running the Pensacola Double Bridge 15K in February.

L - Zoo with No Color

We are so fortuante to live so close to the Gulf Breeze Zoo (annual pass holders) and we just don't go there often enough. Liam LOVES it because of the animals and "free-roaming" (pun intended) he is allowed. Here are some black and white pictures from my phone.

Plus the zoo is full of sand, rocks and pinecones to play with!

He loves to chase the chickens.

We always laugh, but I was pleased to catch him in one of his bent over belly laughs!

A - 1st Light Relay Marathon

As a semi-last minute decision, I joined a team for the First Light Relay Marathon in Mobile, AL. It was a great decision. Although, it was a super early wake up time, it was with great women, good weather and super fun all around Mobile. I ran my 5 miles in 51 mins, which is not awesome, but I did draw the short stick on the hills of Mobile. So I was pleased nonetheless.

We were blessed to spend the first day of 2012 with The Harrisons. We didn't have any plans, so we made a big breakfast, watched tv, played outside and enjoyed each other's company.

Liam was priceless on Christmas morning. He took it all in...SLOWLY! After being encouraged to check out his new car, he didn't really want to get out. He didn't understand the concept that those were all of his gifts from Santa. With a little help along the way and stops to play with the new toys, he got through it all - with smiles, chatter and laughs.

Liam is old enough that we wanted to start our own family Christmas traditions. Even though we were missing a key piece (Joe), we were excited to have so many family members in town to celebrate with us.

We've been talking about Santa and prepping him for his second visit with the jolly man. Since Joe is headed out on deployment soon, we wanted to make sure to get in the experience all together. We ventured out the Bass Pro Shop (2nd year going there and highly recommend), where Santa was sure to be and want to listen to Liam's wish list.

The last FSU game we attended was the Miami game two years ago - a week after we found out that we were expecting Liam. So, when the Michele, Larry and McLane Edwards graciously offered to hang out with Liam while we attended a game this season, we took them up on it. As Liam gets older, he's becoming super independent and wants to so things on his own. So we have started to give him 2-3 step instructions - he follows them, with some artist appeal some times. Example:

Liam is super excited to hear about our trip to the park. He is asked to go to his room and get ready to leave the house.

He comes down the hall from his room with socks and shoes on, but when asked "where are your pants" this is the reaction we get...as if they are there and he's showing us.

Again, we ask Liam to go get ready for the park.

He comes out prepared to see a ball game at the park or perhaps play catch himself.

However, again we ask "where are your pants." Have a toddler is the very best entertainment!

A - Half Marathon'er

After successfully completing my second half marathon, I think it is safe to call myself a "half marathon'er." I am hooked and can't wait to continue working on cutting my time. My training for this particular run was rough and going into it, I just wanted to finish. However, when I reached mile 10 and still felt good, I knew I was on to something. I pushed through some cramps and ran through some water stations. I did, however, get a horrible calf cramp around 11, so I did some mall walking for a bit. Overall, I'm pleased with my 2:29 finish. I was stoked to run it with Leah and have the Harrisons with my family to cheer me on!

The cheer-squad were at the 8.5 mile mark to give us some needed motivation!

Angie was so grateful that the rest of the family drove up to Pace to support one of her many fundraising events for Covenant Hospice. This one is a family festival and bull riding competition called Blue Jeans & BBQ. Liam had a ball on the bouncy castle,john deere, seeing the horses and bulls and enjoying his first hayride! Liam is growing so fast and is able to fit into clothes that he had hanging in his closet. He was finally able to wear his Stanford football t-shirt from Uncle Nathan. He was stoked to wear it to school this week.

With growth comes new development. We can't begin to rattle off all of the new things Liam does/says everyday. He makes us laugh and puzzles us so often. One thing is for sure, he is organized and very intelligent. In Liam's world, much like his mother's, everything has it's place. He is super observant and ready to help out where he can. We fall more and more in love with him very day!

We had the pleasure of traveling (minivan adventure) with the Harrisons to Augusta, GA, where Matt competed in the Ironman half - 70.3. It was pretty amazing to say the least. Matt conquered a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run in 5 hours and 40 mins - ATHLETE.

L - Big Boy Bed

It was a typically night at the Schlosser house. We gave Liam a bath. He brushed his teeth. We read three books. We put him to bed in his crib and closed his bedroom door. He moaned for a bit (as usual) and then it stopped, which it always does when he falls asleep. However, this was nothing but typical. About ten minutes later, we hear him moaning again...but this time it seems as though he is in the hall! We sprung from our couch and ran to his room. Joe opened the door slowly, only to bump into Liam smiling. He successfully climb over and out of his crib. We didn't NOT see this coming for at least a couple more months. So, we converted his baby crib to his big boy bed the next day.

So far (knocking on all wood in the house), he's doing well with the change and seems to like it. We think it's a control thing and we're not really sure where he would get that trait. Wink, wink. As Liam grows, so does his room...

When Foster Schlosser is let out side, Liam must go with him. As soon as Liam hears the back sliding door, he bolts to be outside with Foster...loves it and throws a fit if he's "not allowed." This afternoon, he was in heaven when I suggested we play outside with Foster. We stayed out until both boys were too hot and ready for the a/c - can't blame them.

He realizes Foster didn't want to chase the stick, so he is offering it to him.

He went and found a stick that may interest Foster more.

Nope, Foster didn't want to play with the stick....so, Liam will just chase him around the backyard.

A & J - Six Whole Years

It was a mere six years ago that we told everyone we knew, in front of God, that we were committing our lives to each other. We started this blog shortly after those vows and called it "The Schlosser Adventures." I don't think we had a clue how much that title would hold true. These six years have flown by and seem like decades. They have been full of tears (happy and tough ones) and the best belly laughs. They have taught us lessons the hard and easy way. They have moved us around, had us separated by miles and have brought us closer than ever. We now have Liam to share in these adventures and help create them! We could not be more blessed and are grateful every day for those who were by our side on August 6, 2005 and those who stand by us six years later. Much love to you as we celebrate our love!

We spent the morning of 4th of July hiking around Squam Lake's Natural Science Center. We saw owls, bears, cougars, hawks, turtles and more. There was a lot to explore and learn. We all loved it and know Liam will love going back again!

Liam is ready to go = sunglasses, check; baseball hat, check; hiking pack, check!

Mama is ready = DD coffee, check!

We are all ready to hit the trails!

We even saw moose. Not really, but it did startle Mama a bit.

Liam liked feeling all the fur. I think he was starting to miss Foster a bit.

A, J & L - Time in Heaven, NH

Time with Nana and Papa is heavenly...meaning, no rules and anything goes! So much so, that he's marked it in a more permanent way!

But Papa makes you earn your keep, even if it means helping to change Nana's car breaks.

Liam is not only allowed, but encouraged to get dirty and play in the garden!

He's able to roam the streets on their mountain town.

Play with the hose...a lot!

Liam's favorite thing to do is climb the stairs (we're grateful not to have them at home).

This looks says, "what Mama, Papa said I could."

We all had a good time and we're all looking forward to visiting again soon! In the meantime, we're working on getting Liam familiar with the words "no, sir" again.

A, J & L - North Conway

Nana and Papa did and excellent job planning adventure for us while we were visiting. We spent one day in North Conway, a cool town where Mama used to go camping and canoeing during the summers. It was pretty cool!

The Harrison's invited us back to the lake house to celebrate Scott & Erika's recent wedding. As always, we had a great time and loved getting to know the bride and groom.

J & L - Father's Day Weekend

Liam made sure dad had an awesome Father's Day weekend, by smiling, hugging and swimming! We spent Saturday going tool shopping - we knew what we wanted to get dad, but wanted him to pick out the particulars. He is now the proud owner of a pressure washer...and a couple other cool toys. On Sunday, we woke up early and spent the beautiful day at the beach - our favorite place these days. That afternoon, Liam colored a picture for dad and we called it a day!

We had a mini UWF reunion this weekend and were able to catch up with some great friends! Here are a few pictures from our family-friendly gathering on Saturday.

Liam enjoyed the water so much, we took him to the beach on Sunday too! He loves being in the water, being covered in sand and under the sun...we LOVE it too! I think we'll be spending many, many more days at the beach this summer!

We woke up super early (okay, not much earlier than Liam usually beckons us on any other morning) and drove to Fairhope, AL - our newest favorite place to spend a weekend. Matt was participating in the Grandman Tri. So, we cheered him on while hanging out with Aunt Leah and Mr. Max. It was a beautiful day!

For the three weekend in a row, The Schlossers traveled out of town. This time, for some time with Grandma and Grumpa Schlossser! We had a perfect weekend - relaxing by and playing in the pool. Liam wasn't too sure the first time back in the pool, but by the last day he was not happy to get out.

I know it's pictures of Liam that draws you to our site these days - so here are a few to start off this entry. Liam at 13 months and 3 weeks old!

We were invited to spend the weekend with the Harrison's at their house on Silver Lake. Friday after work, we packed the car and headed east to spend a relaxing weekend on the lake. It was beautiful and perfect weather - cool mornings and hot afternoons. We shared great laughs, beers and food with perfect company.

We loading up a rented minivan (with the Harrison Crew) and headed north to ATL. Last year, we did the same and we had a great time. It was a trip to remember because Leah and Matt shared that they were expecting. This year, Liam had Max to share in this road trip adventure! We spend our first day in Decatur, new home to Ashley, Doug and Eli! It was a very cool town and we're so happy they have all found their "home away from home together!" They are the frosting on the ATL cake!

First stop, Twains for some great craft beer and fun hippie entertainment.

L - Month 13

We've had an exciting 13 month with Liam in our lives. He is growing leaps and bounds. New things - he points to communicate his wants (we're still working on correlations to words), has developed a belly laugh like no other, going from sit down to standing with no help (we're still working on taking steps), blows sweet kisses, eats just about anything but can't promise it will be a pretty sight, cries when it's time to come in from outside, has completely fallen in love with the beach and Foster, and has a FULL set of teeth (okay, we're still waiting on one more to poke through). All and all, it's been a fun month (sorry for the lack of updates).

A, J & L - Crawfish Festival

We were able to hang out with our buddies this weekend and met up with them at the Crawfish Festival. Liam enjoyed strolling around downtown with his trike and loved all the looks he received. It was a beautiful day to be outside and enjoy Pensacola!

L - Beach Love

We've take Liam to the beach a few times and as much as he loves being outside, he hasn't been fond of the sand....until Nana and Papa were here. We all went to check out the windy beach one late afternoon before enjoying a seafood dinner at Peg Legs. It sure was windy (only crazy tourist laying out), but we had a blast. It is now clear that Liam loves the beach!

L - My New Tricycle!

Liam received some pretty awesome birthday gifts and he loves them all. However, he lights up like you wouldn't believe when we mentioned "bike." (Thanks Nana & Papa.) It has become something we do every night and we're not looking forward to the first rainy night that we have to tell him, "no bike ride." I'm sure he'll give us his best bottom lip cry. Until then, we'll enjoy all of these smiles!

L - Easter With Family

Nana, Papa and Uncle Jimmy joined us for a fun, relaxing Easter. We checked out Liam's basket of goodies that they Easter Bunny left for him.

L - First Easter

After having great success with meeting Santa at Bass Pro Shop, we decided to take Liam to meet the Easter Bunny at the same location. Although BPS was great, meeting the Easter Bunny was not as joyous as meeting Santa for the first time. Liam is definitely in "stranger danger" mode.

Meeting the big fish in the huge tank after was a much better experience.

L - New Travel High Chair

Mama has always been nervous about these portable/travel high chairs, but knows it would be super convenient for traveling and restaurants . So, after using the Phil & Teds Metoo at Peg Legs a couple times, she was sold on it's ability to be a great travel high chair. So, after some online shopping, a few coupon codes and a couple days of USPS time - we are proud owners and users of a new high chair. We're loving it at the house and looking forward to taking "on the go" with us soon.

L - A Big Smile...

...needs big teeth! Liam has been smiling with 8 teeth for quite a while now, so it was time to grow more. His body sure does have a way of doing things to the extreme! For the past three weeks he's been in pain, waking at all times in the night, clingy, appetite change, mild fever, shoving everything in this mouth...and FINALLY - three more pearly whites are poking through. His "one year old morals" are joining in on his beautiful, dimpled smile! There are 2 more mounds we can see, so we know he'll have a full, little boy smile soon enough. In the meantime, we'll keep trucking through this stage. After all, it's only a phase...it too, will pass.
